Job Description

 Issuance of store requests (Fertilizers/ Chemicals/ Pesticides/ Packaging/ Loose Tools/ Fittings/ Seeds/ Fuel etc) in liaison with external departmental heads
 Proper recording and safeguarding of stocks in the store by using accurate and non-defective tools. (e.g proper chemical measuring jars to avoid spillages, accurate weights on seeds/ fertilizers etc).
 Raise requisitions (re-order quantities) for various store items whenever established re-order levels are reached.
 Liaise with sectional managers/ departmental heads to approve requisitions for the re-order quantities.
 Inform your supervisor and the user managers in case you find anomalies (quality, quantity, specifications) in any of the stock items under your jurisdiction.
 Ensuring there are no expired items in the store.
 Flag all slow-moving items in the store for appropriate management action.
 Ensure you issue items in the spec required by the users (e.g you must dilute chemicals before issuing for spraying as per the specification, break bulk for bulky items etc)
 No stock item should be issued without prior authority from the departmental head and there must be a signed document for authorization (specifically, tickets for fertilizers, seeds, chemicals etc)
 Ensure disposal of empty containers (where applicable) is done properly as per the company policy.
 Ensuring firefighting equipment at the store are in good working condition and are inspected as per schedule.
 Ensuring safety precautions are always followed while working at the stores (such as issuing chemicals/ pesticides)
 Ensure the store is well locked after work and keys handed over as per set guidelines.
 Regular stock take (daily/ weekly) indicating stock balances to ensure adequate monitoring of re-order levels and to avoid instances of stock outs.
 Ensuring a clean, neat and well-maintained working environment
 Conservation of the general environment/ surroundings by keeping work areas clean and tidy.
 Producing daily and weekly written reports indicating stock items received and issued through use of bin cards.
 Immediately report to your seniors (Supervisor, Manager) in case of spillage in large quantities (e.g. for chemicals, pesticides, fuel).
 Promote and maintain ethical and professional standards in line with company staff regulations, ETI and other codes of conducts to enhance worker welfare.
 Health and Safety – Ensure all duties are performed safely and responsibly in consideration to Environmental, Health and Safety Company policies
 Any other duty as may be assigned to you by the management from time to time
RISKS
• Chemical poisoning due to contact with pesticides used in control of pests and diseases if procedures are not followed
• Respiratory problems associated with cold temperatures and pesticide inhalation
• Skin/eye irritations if PPE is not properly used.
• Muscle aches and sprains if care is not taken when moving equipment and heavy farm inputs.

In order to protect your health you must observe the following:

• Follow instructions & orders as given by the management.
• Maintain the PPE issued to you in good order and condition.
• Ensure that appropriate PPE is worn at all times while at work (and when issuing/ mixing chemicals).
• You will be given training on the “Safe Use of Pesticides” which will enable you to perform your duties in a manner that will be safe to yourself, others & the environment.
• You will be expected to follow the training instructions given to you in your “SAFE USE” training.
• You will be required to provide blood samples & undergo regular checks to ensure your health if handling chemicals.
• Report any problems to your supervisor or a manager immediately.

SPRAY SUPERVISOR

Job Description

Supervising spray operators’ activities related to chemicals and record keeping.
 Maintaining consistent communication with the farm operations lead to ensure clarity of intent and clarity of desired outcome.
 Reading, interpreting and translating chemical labels to spray operators as needed.
 Monitoring and overseeing spray applications to ensure safety and accuracy.
 Planning and coordinating pre-operation set up tasks with farm operations lead to ensure complete understanding of crops to be sprayed, labour requirements and chemical availability.
 Ensuring all personal protective equipment (PPE) clothing /rain gear, eye safety, eye wash and chemical decontamination points are in proper working condition.
 Inspecting equipment to ensure proper functioning, recommend machinery, equipment and supplies necessary for optimum performance.
 Verifying operator knowledge of tasks and specifics of operating and loading procedures.
 Providing appropriate training and education on the safe use and operation of equipment and spraying techniques.
 Ensuring that each operator has appropriate PPE and the same are properly used at the work place.
 Starting motors and engaging machinery such as sprayers, pumps and portable spray equipment to verify that they are operating properly and safely.
 Mixing pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides according to directions.
 Calibrating sprayers and chemical applications equipment.
 Filling sprayers with water and chemicals according to formulas using safe practices and applying to crops at recommended rates.
