Job Title: Technical Assistant Department/Office: Technical
Reporting to: Technical Manager Farm: Kiserian
Position Summary.
This position is responsible for all activities directing the management of the Out-grower program. They are in charge of coordinating the day-to-day operations for the out growers’ scheme to achieve the desired product in quality, quantity and safety
Roles and Responsibilities
You will be expected in addition to other duties as may be assigned by management from time to time.

  • Provide farmers in the Out growers program with assistance in the conduct of site selection, seed preparation, seeding, and management, harvesting and sampling operations, record keeping, data entry and analysis.
  • Ensuring the company planting programme is followed and that at all times the production is achieved as per the budget
  • Making weekly projections to the management and ensuring these are met.
  • Ensuring good quality product as per the specifications.
  • Assisting in the extension of Outgrower program results through written reports for farmers and advisory staff.
  • Undertaking regular self-assessment of the farmers against the Ngong veg QMS and other external standards.
  • Training of the farmers on various operational issues as guided by the training Matrix.
  • Scouting for pest and diseases for the small scale farmers
  • Advising the farmers on pesticide and fertilizers to apply in the field.
  • Stocking the farmers’ pesticides and seeds and ensure allocation as per the requirement and that stock management is well handled
  • Promoting sustainable and acceptable crop production methods according to Outgrower program.
  • Supervise the farmers and their staff on field to ensure GAP is followed.
  • In consultation with the agronomist initiate, develop and conduct additional Outgrower projects to meet identified field crop company needs.
  • Maintaining Ngong Veg Scheme Certification programmers in the Outgrower schemes.
  • Preparing periodic reports as required from time to time.
  • Supervising and coordinates activities of graders engaged in grading produce according to assigned company specification.
  • Ensuring all the farmers records are well documented and up to date at all times
  • Ensuring the farmers have all the required structures as per the requirement of standards
  • Prepare the farmers for global gap certifications
  • Any other responsibilities as may be assigned by their manager from time to time.

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

The following qualifications, knowledge, and experience are required of an employee in this role.

  • Essential
    • Degree/Diploma in Agronomy, Horticulture or other related field.
    • 5 years or more experience in the industry
    • Should have excellent strategic planning skills.
    • Must have strong communication skills.

    Desirable

    • Should have the ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Must be process driven, self-motivated, develop and work as part of a team and possess strong management, organisational and communication skills.
    • Thorough knowledge in usage and handling of agricultural equipment, chemicals and fertilizers.
